Brenda & Elisabeth Fies - The women behind Bleedfest! |
Elisabeth Fies is a filmmaker with a mission. Actually, she’s a filmmaker who has a couple of missions. One is the same that is shared by everyone who has put pen to paper, or film in the camera, to tell a story. The other is to help other women interested in filmmaking to have the opportunities they deserve to share their work and tell their stories.
To that end Elisabeth and her sister Brenda have started a new kind of film festival. BleedFest, it’s not the first festival to spotlight the talents of women filmmakers and those who support them. However, this film festival stands out because it happens not once per year, but on the first Sunday of every month starting December 5th 2010.
Each month will have a different theme. December is “Thrillers”, January is “Sci-fi & Western” and March is all about “Horror”. The festival is open to submissions from women writers, producers, and directors. Submissions from male filmmakers are also welcome as long at their work features strong female characters. Ultimately, the festival’s goal is to make the idea of the “chick flick” go the way of the dinosaur.
